WHAT DOES BB
STAND FOR?

Badass Boat

When conceiving of sharing his love for the Channel Islands, Captain Joe needed to find the right boat. Something that would be great for fishing anything, have enough range to get to Catalina and San Clemente, and open enough for enjoying and being social. After almost a year of searching throughout the U.S., the BB Pelagic (FKA Reel Busy) was located in Stuart, Florida. This 40 foot Cabo Express checked all the boxes with its open layout, tuna tower, and outriggers, plus it looks badass with its sharp looking dark blue hull. Captain Joe was also lucky to meet Captain Steve Lassley, of the Bad Company. Captain Steve has helped Captain Joe find the right boat and is always a text message away for providing fishing advice from one of the world’s most successful fisherman. Eric’s Tackle shop in Ventura is the BB Pelagic’s go to spot for local knowledge on finding the right gear to catch whatever species we are targeting.

Did we mention how fast this boat is? We cruise at 27 knots, which means that from Channel Islands Harbor we can get to Anacapa in 20 minutes, Santa Cruz in 40 minutes, and Santa Rosa in about 90 minutes. In our humble opinion, that is Badass!

Big Bugs

We love finding bugs, toads, and monsters! We have over 30 years of diving the channel islands together for lobsters. Unfortunately, we don’t offer lobster diving charters at this time but do offer hoop netting charters. Come for a late evening excursion to the happy hunting grounds. We will bait and drop hoop nets, you will enjoy some food, libations, and evening exploration while the hoop nets soak for an hour or two. When we pull them up, we hope you will be bringing a few home for supper. Bugs are typically 1-4 lbs, toads are 4-8 lbs, and anything bigger than that is a monster!

Boils and Breezers

Blue Fin Tuna are the number one prize fish in Southern California and Baja Mexico. When searching for these deliciously famous fighters, the tuna tower and binoculars are the main tools of the trade. We are watching for the water to be disturbed from its normal surface. When tuna are feeding the water froths from them jumping out of the water making it look like it is boiling water. When tuna are following and corralling bait the surface of the water looks as if a strong breeze is blowing over a small spot. You can be sure, we are on the lookout for you.

Beauty and Bounty

The Channel Islands are known for some of the best fishing in Southern California and one of the most beautiful island groups in the world. Both above the water and below the water scenery are fantastic. Whether your trip is to explore the islands, whale watch, dolphin watch, or if it is to enjoy fishing and having the freshest possible seafood on your table, we have you covered.
